SEWATAMA PRESIDENT DIRECTOR GREETS BUSINESSES IN INDONESIA AND SINGAPORE

Hasto Kristiyono, Sewatama President Director, greets businesses in Indonesia and Singapore in a Live Talk Show: “Economic Buzz”, MNC Business TV, on November 30, 2011.

Hasto painted a picture of the power market and Sewatama’s contribution to its supply in Indonesia.

In the 60-minute dialog hosted by Edwin Suryabrata, Hasto explained that there has been improvement in the energy sector (specifically electricity) compared to 15-20 years ago. But, the growth in demand at 7%-9% has only been followed by the growth in supply at an average of 4% annually. The electrification ratio in the country is still around 65%, leaving around 80 million people having no access to electricity.

“The widening of gap between demand and supply of electricity invites higher participation from the private sector, “ he responded to the question of the condition of the power sector in Indonesia.

Access to electricity supply is still dominated by the government.

“We need to make sure that we–the private sector–are ready to participate at any time for when the government decide to start opening up, “ Hasto added.

When asked about competition, Hasto believed that more players in the power sector can be threatening but at the same time an opportunity to learn from those companies.

For 20 years, Sewatama gained its reputation as the leading provider of temporary power solution through genset rental. The company has already started to build capability in providing long-term power solution in order to anticipate future needs. In addition, integrated power solution service is made possible having a parent company, PT. ABM Investama, which has integrated energy-related services under the Trakindo Group with wide range of capabilities from mining to logistics.

Sewatama’s superiority also lies in its capability to deliver timely and quality power solution.

“When you commit to providing solution to the country, then you commit your resources–people, machine, and money–to get everything ready beforehand so when the need arises, you can deploy that solution very quickly, “ said Hasto of the company’s key to being timely.“With proper planning we can deliver up to 20 Megawatt, enough to cover 3-4 regencies outside of Java within less than a month.”

In addition to temporary and long-term power solution, Sewatama also provides consultation service that manages the demand side of power. “You can add more energy to reach a certain level of quality of life, but you can also consume less energy to come up with the same quality of life, “ Hasto explained of the type of advice given in the consultation.

Moving forward, Sewatama has its strategy set on using green energy resources for its long-term power solution. The first step was marked by the two subsidiary companies that was formed in May 2011, PT. Pradipa Aryasatya dan PT. Nagata Bisma Shakti–each using thermal and renewable energy resource.

The Live Talk Show that was also aired in countries outside of Indonesia becomes part of Sewatama’s plan to strengthen its contribution to the Indonesian power market as well as start its expansion plan into other countries.
